I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Aug 19 – 20

Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. There is something for everyone this weekend, so keep reading and find your fun.

SATURDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Stay out of the gutter at today’s Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes. Game and food specials and plenty of good times. Stick around for the Heavenly’s Angels Fundraiser in the lounge and you’ll enjoy karaoke and pizza for just five dollars.

Douglas County is a hotbed of activity today. Start out at the Carson Valley Medical Center for a Color Blast 5K and Health Fest. Celebrate the Carson Valley Cultural Center and Museum’s Anniversary with free admission. Learn something about the history of Genoa’s Candy Dance in the historic Pink House.

Hot August Nights is over, but the cool classics are still around. Motor Car weekend at the Nevada Railroad Museum blends a Karson Kruzers car show with rides on the Edwards and McKeen Motor Cars. All makes and models are welcome at the Second Annual ‘A Place to Shine’ Show and Shine at Carson Mall. Vendors, kids activities, and much more make this a great option for a Saturday afternoon.

A trip out to Washoe Lake State Park for some star-gazing is a quiet end to a busy day. Bring a red flashlight and you may just see a few shooting stars.

The concerts in the Capital Amphitheater have always been a local favorite: blanket and a picnic are all you need to make the most of this Sunday afternoon. Flashback to yesteryear at the Virginia City ‘Way it Was Rodeo.’ The Trippin King Snakes take the stage at the Genoa Bar Porch Party. Food and drink will be available, and it’s a great way to wind down the weekend.

SUNDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival
